Cauliflower Green Peas Masala

Here is the recipe for a spicy Masala Gravy using Cauliflower and Green Peas. Cauliflower Green Peas Masala goes well with appam since it’s spicy. Vegetarians can make this spicy gravy instead of the usual Vegetable Stew which has Coconut Milk.

Ingredients

  1. Cauliflower florets – separated from 1 medium sized cauliflower
  2. Green Peas (Fresh or Frozen) – 1/4 cup
  3. Onion (sliced) – 1 large
  4. Tomato (sliced) – 2 medium
  5. Tomato Ketchup – 3 tbsp
  6. Slit Green Chillies – 2
  7. Curry Leaves – A sprig
  8. Minced Ginger -1 tbsp
  9. Minced Garlic – 1 tbsp
  10. Oil – 2 tbsp
  11. Meat Masala/ Chicken Masala Powder – 2 tbsp
  12. Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
  13. Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  14. Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
  15. Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
  16. Salt – As required
  17. Water – As required

Preparation Method

  1. Clean the cauliflower florets by soaking it in warm water mixed for around 5 minutes. Wash and drain the water and keep the florets aside.
  2. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a wok and saute onions.
  3. Add slit green chillies and curry leaves and saute till the onions are translucent.
  4. Throw in the chopped tomatoes and saute till the tomatoes are cooked thoroughly.
  5. Saute the finally chopped ginger and garlic pieces for a 2 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat and add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chilly powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp garam masala powder, 2 tbsp chicken/meat masala powder and stir fry for two minutes.
  7. Add the cauliflower florets along with some salt and 1 cup water. Combine everything together.
  8. Cover and cook for around 5-7 minutes. Then add the green peas and tomato ketchup along with more water if required.
  9. Continue to cook covered for another 10-15 minutes stirring occasionally, until the cauliflower is cooked.
  10. Uncover and continue cooking for a few more minutes so that the gravy becomes thick.
  11. Serve along with rice, appam or chappathis.
