Onion Chutney – Ulli Chammanthi

Here is my recipe for an easy Onion Chutney with coconut. This tastes excellent with Dosa, Idli etc.

Ingredients

  1. Sliced Onions – 1 large
  2. Dried Red Chillies – 3
  3. Crushed Garlic – 2 cloves
  4. Grated Ginger – 1 tbsp
  5. Shredded Coconut – 1 cup
  6. Salt – to taste
  7. Curry Leaves – A few
  8. Oil – 2 tbsp

Preparation Method

  1. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a wok or kadai.
  2. Add onions and dried red chillies and saute till the onions are translucent.
  3. Add the crushed garlic cloves, grated ginger and curry leaves and saute for a few minutes.
  4. Add salt and cook till the onions are soft and cooked.
  5. Allow everything to cool and then grind everything into a fine paste along with shredded coconut and very little water.
  6. Serve this tasty onion chutney along with Dosha or Idli.
