“Jaipur Indian Cuisine” was the first Indian Restaurant I tired in Charlotte. Jaipur is well known for it’s daily Lunch and Dinner Buffets which is supposed to have over 45 items. Our first visit to Jaipur was on a weekday for dinner. Contrary to the good reviews we had heard from a few friends, the buffet turned out to be bad. The food was not fresh and the items were cold. They were very few non vegetarian items. The Masala Dosa and Naan which they served at the table was neither hot nor crispy. The Chicken dishes didn’t taste good. The gulab jamuns were hard and Kheer was pathetic. The only good items were the Chaat and the Faluda which they give only during weekend Buffets.

Our second trip to Jaipur was on a weekend and the dinner buffet was better compared to their Weekday Buffet. The food was at least fresh and warm – though the items remained the same. The weekend dinner buffet was $13/head.

If you are looking for a good Indian restaurant in Charlotte (North side and University Area), you can try Sangam or Passage to India but I would never recommend Jaipur. It is not worth the money. The staff and service is just ok. They don’t clear your buffet plates frequently. They are not very friendly.

We tried out Passage to India after hearing good reviews from our friends. Well, I must say it is good compared to all other Indian Buffets in Charlotte. We went on a weekend and the food was fresh and tasty. The non vegetarian items were spicy and tasty. They had lot of non-vegetarian items which is uncommon for an Indian Buffet

The restaurant is very small and gets crowded on weekends. The service is good and they also refill the buffet dishes. For weekday lunch buffets, they have fewer items but it is still worth. So if you want to have some good Indian buffet, try out this place. For dinner, they have don’t have buffet but I heard that the lunch buffet is much better than the dinner entrees.

Some of the items included in the weekend buffet are:-

Starters – All kind of Chaat items, Samosa, Vada

Non Veg Dishes – Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Kabab, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chilly chicken, Goat curry

Main Course – Chicken Biriyani, Vegetable Biriyani, Peas Pulao

Breads and Rotis – Idli, Dosa, Naan, Pav Bhaaji

Vegetarian dishes – Palak Panner, Channa Masala, Dal, Palak Kofta, Shai Panner, Aloo Gobi Palak

Desserts – Gulab Jamun, Payasam
