Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant, Charlotte

Ethiopian Food is similar to Indian food in many ways – specially their split lentil sides which is similar to Dal Curry or Parippu Curry. Not to forget their Chicken and Beef Entrees which are similar to Keralite Cuisine’s Chicken Roast and Beef Ularthiyathu respectively. Meskerem also has an Appetizer called Sambosa . It is similar to the Indian Samosa. You can either choose a beef or lentil filling.

My personal favorites at Meskerem are the following:-

1. Doro Wat – extremely tasty chicken pieces served with hard boiled egg.
2. Special Chicken Tibs – small cubes of boneless chicken in some gravy. It is delicious.

We have also tried the Beef Entrees like Tibs Wat and Special Beef Tibs and they are good.

Ethiopian restaurants are good options for Vegans as they have Vegetarian Entrees like Miser Wat (lentil dish) and Shro Wat (Chick peas/Chana dish). Meskerem has Lunch Buffet most weekdays and I have heard that it is good.

Meskerem is located near to downtown Charlotte. It is a good place for families and is crowded on weekends. You can choose to have a romantic dinner on any weekday. The service is good and the lady who serves is extremely nice. We end up going there at least once in a month.
